Kansas City Chiefs 2009 Football Headshots MIAMI GARDENS – The Miami Dolphins finished out Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh with third-string quarterback Tyler Thigpen playing the entire fourth quarter.
Thigpen was called into duty because Chad Henne, the team’s starting quarterback, suffered an eye injury in the first half and wasn’t allowed to return to the game, and Pat White suffered a serious head injury in the third quarter.
The hit to White‘s head occurred at 2:05 in the third quarter when White tried to convert a third-and-8 but fell just short on his 7-yard run. White, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound rookie from West Virginia, was forced out of bounds by Ike Taylor‘s physical hit.
White laid motionless on the Steelers sideline for a couple of minutes before getting carted off the field, prompting Thigpen to play in his first game with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins acquired Thigpen in a trade with Kansas City in late September to address the season-ending injury to Chad Pennington.
On Thigpen‘s first series he led the Dolphins to a 61-yard touchdown drive on his first possession, closing the deficit to 27-17. Thigpen later threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to Davone Bess to make it 27-24, but he threw a costly interception in the final minutes near the goal line as the Dolphins were going for the go-ahead score.
